HSIAsia >> Newsletters >> February 2400 Helping to Deal With Avion Flu
HSIAsia has been working with officials and farmers in Bali to help them understand the proper humane procedures to follow when dealing with the outbreak of Avion Flu among chicken and poultry flocks. In February, when the Avian Flu broke, HSIAsia supported the efforts of Yudisthira Foundation, a Balinese animal welfare group, and the government to educate farmers about the problem and solutions. The program was in place within five days after the announcement of Avian Flu in Indonesia. Informational brochures were printed and seminars were held. The main issue put forth to the farmers was how to humanely cull infected chickens. The program followed that suggested by the World Health Organization, Compassion in World Farming and the Humane Society International. |
