For the vets and workers at the Bali Street Dog
Foundation
concern for their countrymen has caused them angst due to the feeling of
helplessness at not being able to help in their usual hands-on manner.
It was payday today and instead of going
to the bank a hat was passed around to collect money to be sent for the
relief efforts in Aceh, Indonesia. Since the Bali Bomb the Balinese have
been suffering their own economic crisis, but you would not have known
that with the selfless generosity the Yudisthira veterinary teams and
staff displayed today -- in many cases giving almost half of their pay.
Not one to sit around, Dr. Listriani
telephoned the ‘Street Team’ to bring the Mobile Clinic (van donated by
IFAW) back to
headquarters - the plans for the day had changed. To support the
generosity of the staff the Foundation added enough money to fill the Mobile Street Clinic full of
water, canned fish, milk, and dried fruit. While the Mobile Clinic was
being filled until the shocks were collapsed, another Yudisthira team was
dispatched to buy stock of penicillin and diarrhea remedies. They
also collected all of the Yudisthira supplies used for suturing and
dressing wounds.
The goods were delivered directly to
the shipper for airlift the next morning to Banda Aceh. At this time the
Indonesian Military is in-charge of the distribution.
It is another sad time for Indonesia
and Yudisthira. Once again Yudisthira finds themselves using their
vehicles, medicines, and resources to assist people suffering from a
terrible catastrophe. At the same time they feel grateful that the
work they do saving the lives of animals also benefits their countrymen in
time of need.
At Yudisthira they believe that,
"It is all interconnected”.
