A Closer Look at Farm Animals

They provide us with food to eat and fiber to wear. But what else do people really know about farm animals? Ask yourself this question: What animal do you know that easily learns her name? That can be taught to do a variety of tricks and to obey commands such as "sit" and "lie down"? That often rolls over on her back to enjoy a good belly-rub?

If you answered "dog," you would be correct. And if you answered "pig," you would also be correct.

All of the animals we refer to as "farm animals" have unique personalities. They're fascinating creatures with the ability to love, form friendships, mourn, get angry, and show a variety of other emotions. They're deserving of our respect, our compassion and our gratitude for what they give us.
